Web Developer till Blocket
Hi! My name is Mac and I am the Head of Web Engineering at Blocket. I am currently looking for a creative individual to join my team of circa 12 people.
As a member of the Web Engineering Team you will be working on both major features of the website and on the technical stack we use to power Blocket. This means that you will not only create web applications seen by million of users, but also that you will maintain SDKs, libraries and tools used by other teams in the company.
Blocket is currently transitioning from our legacy stack to a more modern one. Some of the key technologies we have recently adopted are React, Redux, Webpack, Node, Kafka, Docker, Travis, AWS and Kubernetes. I am positive that – should you join the team – you will have a lot of fun as this is a pivotal moment for the tech department and the opportunities to make a difference and influence the future of our company are numerous and frequent.
To thrive and succeed in your role:
I am looking for a bright individual who is creative and entrepreneurial. You must be a person that thrives working with others and goes the extra mile to support your colleagues. This is not only because developing a product as large and as complex as Blocket is a team effort all the way through, but also – and above all – because caring for each other is one of the core values of our company.
It’s important that you’re hungry for learning new things, and sharing your learning with others, and be generous with feedback and support, so as to do your part to help us become the best workplace in Sweden for engineers (which is one of our strategic goals for the next years).
A relevant education, years of self-reflected experience and knowledge of our tech stack will be duly considered assets during the selection process. However, even rockstar developers were once inexperienced juniors, and I’d very much love to have the next Patti Smith / Jon Bon Jovi of web engineers growing and maturing in my team. So: don’t be shy if you think you have what it takes and only miss the experience!
Who am I as a manager?
As a manager I tend to be very hands-off, relying on the talented members of my team (and clear and transparent processes) to make the smartest technical choices. The bulk of my time and energy is dedicated to support each team member in their journey towards greatness, whether that means coaching them towards their personal goals, removing hindrances and annoyances from their daily routines, laying out strategic goals for the whole team or buying them candies (true story!).
Blocket and Schibsted
Finally, I think you should know that Blocket is owned by Schibsted, a Norwegian holding with marketplaces and media assets in dozens of other countries and close to 10.000 employees. Schibsted companies cooperate a lot with each other and we promote internal mobility, so joining Blocket means gaining access to a world (literally!) of opportunities for professional and personal growth.
